23 December 2014 - Each year Thanda celebrates Christmas with the children from the three local communities that surround the reserve. Last weekend we visited the villages with our porter Sipho, one of our longest standing members of staff - dressed up as Father Christmas. We delivered activity books & crayons, caps, fruit, sandwiches and sweets to over 300 children. Christmas carol singing as well as traditional Zulu dancing was on the programme. And even Father Christmas joined in!
8 December 2014 - Thanda is extremely proud to have once again been voted The World's Leading Luxury Lodge by the World Travel Awards. The 21st Annual World Travel Awards Grand Final Ceremony was held on the 7th December at CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa in Anguilla. Accepting the award on behalf of Thanda was Hakan Ozakbas of The Leading Hotels of the World, New York office. Credit for this award goes to the dynamic team that helped to reinvent Thanda at the beginning of the year.
18 July 2014 - Thanda Foundation Trust is recognising Nelson Mandela Day by attending the official opening of the Mvezo Komkhulu Museum and unveiling of a Nelson Mandela Statue at Mvezo, Eastern Cape, the birthplace of Nelson Mandela. Thanda Foundation Trust has contributed some R2,4m to this project as well as having contributed one of three Nelson Mandela bronze statues. Read more here.
22 May 2014 - The Zulu culture is full of song and dance, and at Thanda we have plenty to sing and dance about as today, the 22nd of May 2014, marks 10 remarkable years since welcoming our first guests. So much has taken place during this time. Thanda has evolved into a world-class game reserve and been awarded for its luxurious accommodation. April 2014 - Thanda has recently welcomed Magdel Geldenhuys to their growing family to take up the newly created position of Hospitality General Manager. Magdel is charged with overseeing the launch of new product and guest activities as well as the implementation of new operational procedures. Magdel’s rounded experience and self-driven motivation will be a great asset to Team Thanda as she assists them in delivering their exciting and ambitious plans for 2014 and beyond.
28 March 2014 – Thanda would like to say a huge thank you to four inspiring young girls who today handed over a cheque for R25,000 to the Thanda/KZN Project Rhino fund. The 4 girls (Jessica Johnson, Olivia Johnson, Kirsten Johnson & Kiara D’Offay) started their “Girls on a Mission Rhino Fund” when they received money singing to fellow campers on a holiday camping trip last year. They dedicated the money to help save rhinos from poachers, a cause they all felt strongly about and eager to do whatever they could to help.
14 February 2014 - On Valentine’s Day, the owners of Thanda Safari, Swedish entrepreneurs Dan and Christin Olofsson, co-hosted the launch of a new Star For Life high school in the district of Hluhluwe, KwaZulu Natal. Star For Life is an initiative of the Thanda Foundation. It is a school-based HIV and AIDS prevention, education and awareness programme. There are currently 80 Star For Life schools reaching 80,000 learners.
