I was searching for a wedding venue and didn’t want the usual hotel or beach wedding. I thought about a game reserve but wanted it to be the best. Thanda has won numerous awards and as soon as I read that the word Thanda is Zulu for “Love” my romantic side kicked in and it was a done deal. It was a truly wonderful experience. We found Thanda Private Game Reserve whilst searching for accommodation on the internet near Hluhluwe. We were immediately attracted to the romance and luxury that t presented. After a week of “roughing it” we were so excited at the prospect of being pampered.
Thanda exceeded our expectations from the moment we arrived. The warm and caring welcome set the tone for the rest of our time here. Every member of the staff has been exceptional.
Being ‘serious food lovers’, we were thrilled to experience the fabulous cuisine at Thanda. We particularly loved Richard’s blend of fine dining and use of exotic ingredients. It was a perfectly seasoned fusion of flavours!
The guides were fantastic and answered all our myriads of questions. Truman was incredibly impressive. The entire team at Thanda were amazing, from the admin staff to the waiters to the cleaners. All in all, Thanda really lived up to the true spirit of love and romance.

How do you start to describe to anyone what it is like to rise with the sun and find the dawn alive with the scent of a hunt. Can words really describe the sight of cheetah, mere metres from you, scanning the horizon for breakfast! When the moment finds you feet from a young male elephant in ‘must’ what would you do? Can anything match the calling roar of a lion as the sun fades on the plains? When the morning finds you eager with anticipation of what lies ahead, and the night finds you full and content, you know it has been a good day – now try that every day! Few places can fulfill all the senses at once, yet it seems that Thanda has done just that! The sights and sounds of majestic animals free to roam the bush, the smell of a successful hunt, or the aroma of natural oils and sweet potato seeping into your skin as the touch of healing hands eases life’s cares away! Each meal the work of an artist and finds it’s way to your plate and leaves you in no doubt that you have sampled paradise. We have been very happy at this resting place called Thanda. Although it must be said, that they sorely lack a panda. A drive with Brendan and his awesome tracker, Is not an outing for the wimp or slacker. At dawn they drag you screaming from your bed, To view a gang of hairy quadrupeds.
These skilled and handsome men – this mighty crew Will never hesitate to analyse your pooh, And tell you if you’re feel sad or happy, From just a passing glance inside your nappy. But should their bush lore fail to make you grin, They leap to cheer you up with London gin.
Vanessa and her kindly household team, Will make your stay an idyll – nay a dream. They plie you with the finest food and drink, So that you fear to swim in case you sink. They cater to your every passing whim, And what is more they do it with a grin.
And finally this bard should state his case, For possibly the finest in the place. A gorgeous Zulu maiden in the Spa The best masseuse I’ve ever found, by far. With skill and graceful tenderness she straightened out my knots, And put me in a sleep as deep as if I had been shot.
Oh Africa, Oh Africa, my heart is left behind, I must return to England, and face the daily grind. And though this rhyme is written part in banter and in jest, This Thanda is a paradise I number as the best.
