Thanda is situated 23km north of Hluhluwe on the N2, towards Mkuze, approximately 300km north of Durban. The reserve is easily accessible from the N2, with a gravel road, the D242, going westward approximately 5 kilometres to the Thanda gate.
The closest commercial airport is Richards Bay, and transfers are available. International guests usually fly to Johannesburg and a connecting domestic flight takes you to Richards Bay, where Thanda staff will meet you.
Private air charter
Charter flights from Johannesburg to Thanda is facilitated by Thanda Air which operates between Rand Germiston in Johannesburg and Mkhuze, 15 minutes away from Thanda.

Climate
The climate at Thanda Private Game Reserve is tropical throughout the year. Average daily temperatures are between 20-30ºc.
As Thanda is situated close to the Indian Ocean, compared to Mpumalanga (Kruger Park) the summers (December to February) are not as hot, and the winters (June to August) not as cold.

What to bring
Warm clothing for winter game drives is essential. It is advisable to bring a good pair of walking shoes and a sun hat. Don't forget your camera!
Electricity
The voltage is 220/250V. 3-point round-pin plugs are used in South Africa. Each room at the main lodge is fitted with universal plugs. The tented camp does not have electricity; light is provided by paraffin lamps.
Communication
Each villa has a telephone and there is a good Internet connection at the main lodge. There is no Internet facility at the tented camp nor are there telephones as the tented camp is not electrified. There is reception for mobile phones in many parts of the reserve, but mountains obstruct the signal in certain areas.
