Zulu welcome at Thanda for Miss Universe 2005
August 2005
Zululand's, 5-star Thanda Private Game Reserve recently hosted Miss Universe 2005, Natalie Glebova, on her first-ever visit to South Africa. Her time in South Africa and Swaziland was part of the Global Health Council's project of HIV/AIDS awareness and her two-day stay at Thanda was to rejuvenate and relax at the end of her visit.

Stated Pierre Delvaux - Vice Chairman of Thanda, "Miss Universe and her associates fell in love with Thanda and commented that it was the best accommodation that they had visited. Natalie went on game drives, was pampered in the world-class health spa (recently voted in the top 5 in South Africa) and visited the impressive Vula Zulu cultural show in the bush theatre where the dancers re-enacted a 'buffalo horn attack charge' introduced by King Chaka. The female dancers were equally impressed in the presence of the 'most beautiful woman in the world'."

On the Saturday evening, a Thanda feast, fit for a Zulu King, was prepared at the boma in her honour where the Head Chef and his talented team impressed everyone with a sumptuous meal of various dishes including local cuisine.

One of Natalie's greatest ambitions as Miss Universe is to make a difference in terms of a world project that could impact the lives of many while making a significant contribution to the stigma and fight against HIV/AIDS. Natalie, apart from obtaining a bachelors degree in IT, is a motivational speaker to high school scholars.

She was incredibly enthusiastic to learn about Thanda's extensive involvement in various HIV/AIDS projects such as 'JAC' - Jobs, Aids and Conservation, a project aimed at improving conditions within the KZN region as well as the Star School Project, an aids awareness programme driven through local schools. She has agreed to discuss future synergies with Thanda, Miss Universe and the Global Health Council supporting and endorsing such a project as the Star School Project.
