Wildlife Report May 2007 - Mariana Venter
May 2007
* On the afternoon of the 22nd all 7 the Wild Dogs were running around the Lodge area and drank water at the water feature. They are doing very well.

* On the afternoon of the 23rd the 3 Lionesses were at Mansendlovu Pan. One of the Sub - Adults stalked and jumped on her mom. Nobody has seen her cubs yet.

* That same evening Theo and guests saw a female Leopard Mfhlweni/Sambane. Even though it was a quick sighting it was worth it.

* On the morning of the 24th the Buffalos were in the 3 trophes area. They are still moving up and down between the Mduna area and the Northern section.

* That same morning a Male Cheetah caught young Kudu in the South Western section. She lay down for a whole hour before she started eating.

* On the 25th there was a female Cheetah at the Log Cabin. I was standing next to the building when she walked passed me and did not even look in my direction again after she saw me the first time. She drank water from a puddle about 20 metres from me. No worries.

* In the afternoon of the 28th the Wild Dogs killed something outside Base Camp. One of the Pups was running with a piece of the animal in her mouth and the rest of the Pups chased her around in circles.

* On the morning of the 29th the Wild Dogs ran from old North gate to Vula Zulu. They met a Cheetah along the fence and the Cheetah chased them away.

* That afternoon the Wild Dogs were in the Mzukhulu area and caught something again. The Pups also then chased each other after pieces of meat.

* On the afternoon of the 30th I found Rhino Cow and her Bull calf. The calf had a very red eye, but it looked better than it did when I saw it the last time. Apparently it's caused by ticks.

* That same afternoon I found the 3 Lionesses at Point-of-no-return where they had killed an adult Wildebeest. It's still the same area where we expect the cubs to be which means the cubs should still be alive.

* On the morning of the 31st there was a young Elephant Bull on Main South close to Madwaleni. He's the 3rd oldest bull we have and is seen more by himself lately then last year.

* Right after that I found a big Elephant Bull at Mansendlovu pan not too far from where the young bull was.

* On the evening of the 31st the Male Lion and 2 Phinda Females were sleeping next to the road between Broxburn and Madwaleni. The male was sleeping like a baby and didn't even move his head when I drove passed them.
